Just as the Taj Mahal was built as a tribute to love, so was the Ann Starrett Mansion. It was built by George Starrett for his wife Ann as a wedding present. Now this Port Townsend Landmark is a price less gem, reflecting the past.
A three tiered, free hung spiral staircase (the construction techniques remain a mystery) rises up a 70 foot octagonal tower. At the dome of the tower are frescos depicting the four seasons and four virtues. Dancing in the clouds are angelic maidens painted in Ann's image. The dome is a glorified solar calendar and in the center is a ruby red glass which light up at the beginning of each new season. The scantily clad nymph in the winter panel caused a mild scandal in it's day.
The mansion is exquisitely detailed with elaborate moldings and authentic American antiques recreated just for you, so you may step back in time and enjoy the Victorian era.
