Located on the historic El Camino Real Hacienda Vargas occupies a site of historical significance in the saga of New Mexico. It has been a stagecoach stop, an Indian trading post, and U.S. Post Office. During the renovation great care was taken to preserve the original structure. The oldest part dates to the 1840's.
Hacienda Vargas has six bedrooms with private entrances, private bathrooms, and fireplaces. Two suites have jacuzzi bathtubs. A large barbecue area and hot-tub are also available for the enjoyment of the guests. A full country breakfast is served in the main dining room.
The Bed and Breakfast is located in the village of Algodones approximately thirty minutes south of Santa Fe and fifteen minutes north of Albuquerque. The Rio Grande Valley has long been noted for its scenic beauty.
The innkeepers are Paul and Jule De Vargas. Both are former bankers who are well traveled. Paul's family has its roots in New Mexico. Both speak Spanish. Paul learned German as an exchange student in Austria.
