The Mansion, an 1851 Greek Revival home, offers a rich history in elegant surroundings. Air-conditioned rooms feature period antiques, hand crocheted bedspreads, dust ruffles and shams.
The home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, described in the nomination as a "truly dignified, aristocratic and striking example of Greek Revival architecture."
Overnight guests at The Mansion are treated to a gourmet breakfast served in the dining room on china, silver and crystal.
The Mansion also boasts a rich history. The home is on the site where the first Confederate flag, the "Stars and Bars," was raised in Kentucky for the first time. The home was built by Lt. Gov. William E. Johnson and was the birthplace of Ben Johnson, one of Kentucky's most noted and powerful politicians.
Bedrooms here are comfortable and inviting - described as "lushly Victorian" by Southern Living Magazine - and adorned with antique furnishings. All have private baths.
The Mansion's grounds are equally beautiful. in the spring, dogwoods on the 3-acre estate burst into bloom, a fragrant addition to the mimosa, pear, apple and maple trees here. The flowers and trees continue their colorful show through summer and fall.
From the moment visitors walk into the entry hall, they experience an elegance not seen in newer homes. A 10-1/2 foot tall gold leaf mirror and 1876 rosewood Steinway piano set the mood.
