In the heart of Mendocino village is the elegantly European WHITEGATE INN. This pristine, white Victorian structure, built in 1883, was home to the first physician in town.
Today, the inn illustrates the beauty and texture, color, and design. Grace and refinement appears to be the hallmark, and is evident in fabric selection, decorative accessories, and artwork to the double mantled fireplace and bouquets of fresh flowers. An environment has been created conveying a sense of European yesteryear, yet unassuming and appealing to everyone. Color is important here. A palette of peach, hunter green, and burgundy is artistically reinterpreted in each of the rooms.
Six professionally decorated, bed chambers reflect an emphasis on the timeless beauty of fabulous French and Victorian antiques, careful attention to detail and an inviting sense of tranquility. Guests may choose from antique canopy or feather beds,(king or queen size), with down quilts, and classic designer linens accented by vintage collectibles. A lavish full breakfast, which changes daily, is served mornings on antique china and sterling silver. A sample fare; chilled fruit juice, sliced fresh fruit plate, Scrumptious egg souffle, freshly baked scones just out of the inn's oven, gourmet bled coffee and piping hot tea, all to be enjoyed along with San Francisco newspapers. Fresh fruit, freshly baked cookies and sparking mineral waters are always available in the lobby and in the afternoons there is wine and hors d'oeuvres. All complimentary, of course.
Beautifully landscaped grounds are resplendent in seasonal color and highlight outstanding English and Victorian herb gardens.
Conveniently located in the heart of Mendocino village, guests can walk to art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, performing arts, Mendocino Headlands State Park and the beach. In Fort Bragg, 10 miles north, you can charter fishing and whale watching boats and take the Skunk Train ride through the redwoods.
