About Driving to Walt Disney World

Visitors to Orlando will find limited public transportation, serious traffic jams and a number of toll roads. The toll roads are worth the change because there is less traffic, and you can avoid areas like "Crime Hills" (Pine Hills) between I-4 and Hiawassie.

The Toll Roads Are:

  • State Rd 528 - the Beeline Expressway
  • FL 408 East West Expressway
  • FL 417 Central Florida Green Way

Carry a good supply of quarters for the unmanned booths, which require exact change.

Rush hour in Orlando goes from 7-9 AM and 4-7 PM - avoid driving during these times. Major events going on at the O'rena, Citrus Bowl or Convention Center will increase traffic. Traffic reports are broadcast from AM 580 on the radio, and you might check the local newspapers for events .

    Useful driving tips and information:
  • Drivers may turn right on the red light in Florida
  • The Emergency number for FL Highway Patrol is star (*) FHP
  • Handicap permits from other states are valid, but a disabled plate alone is NOT
  • Traffic must stop when school buses are loading or unloading

  • Once you reach Walt Disney World, the parking will be $6.00 per car. Take a tip from the experts: WRITE down the area you parked instead of trying to remember it. Your mental capacity may be impaired at the end of a full day, and roaming the huge parking lot is not an E ticket ride.
